'Chaos' and 'Order' are enigmas. They appear to stand as polar opposites; achieved and disrupted through interaction and play with each other. Yet, in our day to day lives, so often chaos and order seem to exist side by side, weaving and dancing with one another. Defining what is 'order' and what is 'chaos' both on an individual level, and as a collective community, takes us on a journey of curiosity and playful reflection.
These states tease our minds, inviting us to question what they mean, their significance and how we are able to experiment with their representation or abstraction. Formed from the visions of the Drawn Together community , 'Chaos & Order' showcases a collection of energetic artworks, with each piece investigating how these deep-rooted concepts within the human psyche visually manifest, bridging together arts-health practices in new forms of exciting expression.
What is Drawn Together?
Drawn Together was set up in 2020 to tackle social isolation and adverse health challenges faced by residents in Camden during Covid19. Weekly sessions have run for five years, led by Medical Artist & Educator Merlin Evans, using art as a tool to nurture a feeling of personal, social, and physical safety. The primary goal of the project is to remove access barriers to the arts and champion the primal right for us all to have access to creative practice, whatever our background, skill level and confidence by offering free arts-health workshops and resources.
The group comprises of local community members and patients attending the James Wigg and Queens Crescent Practice, offering online and offline creative sessions. This collective exchanges ideas, socialises, and finds inspiration through community.
Drawn Together strives to co-create unique artworks that reflect patient experiences and inspire others to do the same - we are all artists at heart!
