Join us for an in-person session focused on behaviour management techniques tailored just for childminders.


This course is designed to support practitioners in understanding and responding to children’s behaviour in the early years.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand what is meant by behaviour
  • Understand why children may display challenging behaviours
  • Learn effective approaches for managing children’s behaviours
  • Understand the concepts of baseline behaviour and behavioural dysregulation
  • Be aware of support services and professional contacts available in Jersey for practitioners and parents

 

This training explores the foundations of behaviour in early childhood and provides practical, developmentally appropriate strategies to support children in early years settings. The session covers:

  • Typical and age‑appropriate behaviours
  • Behaviours that may indicate underlying emotional needs
  • Common early years behaviours such as biting, frustration, and boundary‑testing
  • The role of co‑regulation and emotional literacy
  • Understanding triggers, context, and the reasoning behind behaviours
  • Practical behaviour‑support strategies that promote safety, connection, and positive outcomes

 

Throughout the training, participants will engage in a range of interactive learning activities designed to deepen understanding and support real‑world application, including:

  • Group tasks and peer discussions
  • Scenario‑based activities
  • Knowledge checks through short quizzes
  • Opportunities to reflect on current practice

These activities enable participants to demonstrate competence and build confidence in supporting children’s behaviour effectively.
