Parents of 3-4 year olds are encouraged to come along to a fun, engaging workshop to share their ideas about children's speaking and listening skills with researchers from the <a href="https://twitter.com/CHATProject_IOE" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Children's Language in Tower Hamlets (CHAT) project</a>. In this event, Dr Claire Forrest (UCL Institute of Education) will aim to create a booklet with parents to help support children's language skills in the Tower Hamlets community. The booklet will be made for parents and carers, by parents and carers.This resource will be one of the outputs from the <a href="https://www.ucl.ac.uk/ioe/departments-and-centres/centres/centre-language-literacy-and-numeracy/empowering-staff-enhance-oral-language-early-years" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">'Talking Time' </a>project, which works with nursery staff in Tower Hamlets and other areas of London to improve children's oral language in the early years. Participants will get the chance to be creative and will receive a £30 shopping voucher as a thank you for their help. There will also be lots of opportunities for questions and discussion. Places are limited so register now.Meet Dr Claire Forrest, UCL Institute of EducationDr Claire Forrest is a Research Fellow working to evaluate the efficacy of an oral language intervention called ‘Talking Time’, led by Professor Julie Dockrell, Department of Psychology and Human Development, UCL Institute of Education, with Professor James Law, University of Newcastle and Dr Sandra Mathers, University of Oxford. The project targets nurseries in areas of high social deprivation in London and Teesside and trains nursery staff to support language development in children aged 3-4 years. Dr Forrest has been awarded an <a href="https://www.ucl.ac.uk/ioe/research/engagement-and-impact/training-and-events/ioe-early-career-impact-fellowship" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Impact Fellowship</a> by the UCL Institute of Education to deliver the CHAT project for the Tower Hamlets community and ensure that language supporting skills from the ‘Talking Time’ project are embedded within the local area.
