Decarbonisation through removal of reliance on natural gas has been a hot topic for years, but what does the data say, and what have we learned so far? We start with an over arching view of the data and policy at a macro level, before taking a deep dive into specific opportunities and challenges when retrofitting existing buildings to decarbonise. We are then joined by an industry guest who will provide further insight into the technology behind the transition process.


Join us for an insightful evening co-hosted by CIOB/ CIBSE as a panel discusses this valuable topic, followed by a Q&A opportunity as well as Industry networking. Please note CIOB/CIBSE members tickets are free.

Michael Ambrose - Energy Business Unit, CSIRO

Michael is a principal research scientist in CSIRO’s Energy Business Unit. He leads projects for industry and the Australian government, involving residential building energy efficiency and is the team leader of CSIRO’s Housing Stock team.


Simon Witts – Director, VA Sciences

Simon has over 37 years of experience in master planning, sustainable design, and project management for complex building services, with a focus on systems design in healthcare, laboratories, and education. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Engineers Australia, contributing to industry standards as co-author of the Victorian Design Guidelines for Hospitals and serving as a peer reviewer for AIRAH.


Moderator: Sian Wilmott – Sustainable Design Leader, Hassell

Sian is a Sustainable Design Leader at global design firm Hassell, with 15+ years’ experience delivering high-performance, sustainable communities across healthcare, commercial, residential, education, and master planned projects. She brings deep expertise in early stakeholder engagement, sustainability policy, and driving positive environmental and social impact. Her current focus: shifting Hassell’s portfolio from sustainable to regenerative.
