Date: Tuesday 30th October 2021Time: 12:30 - 13:30 BSTLocation: Event hosted online<h3>Overview</h3>A key outcome and impact of the NICER programme is to increase the “Direct application and implementation of CE practices, business models, technologies and solutions leading to resource productivity + GVA improvements. In this 3rd NICER programme webinar series invited speakers from the CE-hub and individual Centres will share their perspectives on what we mean by the term business model, some business model taxonomy, state of evidence on how and why CE BMs succeed or fail and some of the key research challenges related to design and implementation. This will be followed by a discussion and Q and A. The event will be followed up by a short position paper which will form the basis for feedback and further ideas for cross programme activities to promote CE Business models.

In her talk, Marina will share perspectives about her research and practical experience with Circular Economy Business Models design and implementation in varied industry segments within Consumer Goods, Life Sciences, and Capital Goods. The talk will cover aspects such as what are and which are the types of Circular Economy Business Models (CEBMs) , how and why CEBMs succeed or fail, and challenges to design and implementation. Marina has a PhD in Engineering Design and Product Development, with focus on Circular Economy Business Model Innovation from the Technical University of Denmark. <a href="https://www.hw.ac.uk/ebs/people/faculty/bing-xu.htm" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dr Bing Xu</a> - Associate Professor in Finance, Heriot Watt University, <a href="https://www.circular-chemical.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">CircularChemicals </a>Theme LeadDr Bing Xu’s work focusses on creating and capturing value from Business Models. She has a background in Chemical Policy and Finance, and is leading on the Policy, Society and Finance Research Theme for the UKRI Interdisciplinary Centre for Circular Chemical Economy. 
 In this talk she will showcase work from a recent case study with Unilever. 
<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/phil-hawkins-0020658/?originalSubdomain=uk" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Philip Hawkins</a> - Business Management General Manager, <a href="https://ukproducts.ricoh.com/about-us/key-personnel" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Ricoh UK Products Ltd</a>Phil is General Manager of the Business Management Division at Ricoh UK Products Limited.
 He is responsible for Business Development and Planning, Business Performance and Transformation, Continuous Improvement, IT and Supply Chain.
 Phil holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA Hons) degree, and a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA). He continues to work with a number of UK universities to develop content relating to the Circular Economy.<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/drgreglavery/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dr Greg Lavery</a> - Managing Director, <a href="https://www.rypeoffice.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Rype Office</a>Greg is the founder and managing director of Rype Office, a circular economy office furniture remanufacturing business in the UK. 
 An engineer by training, Greg has focused his career on improving the sustainability of the built environment. Following an early career with Arup, Greg was awarded a PhD in sustainable building design in the 1990s. He built from startup what became Australia’s largest solar business, Origin Solar, and as a strategy consultant with Bain and Booz Allen Hamilton assisted organisations to create innovative sustainable business models, including Masdar City, Interface, Shell and ClimateWorks Australia.
