About this event

Drawn from foundations of underground street styles  Krump, Whacking Hip hop & House &  interwoven with Punk philosophy & Somatic practice.

CURSIVE is a guide to building your own movement practice. Allowing people to step into selfhood, lineage and their own becoming whilst building infrastructures of care and a constant, gentle self-questioning as an essential part of embodiment.

The four sessions will cover:

Week 1: Storytelling through Movement -  Working with the 5 eyeline states, mapping your dance lineages- What do you come from, claim and continue?

Week 2 : Rhythm - Finding your own internal rhythms through the Groove game, repetition and exploring ‘Silence as Sound’ and ‘Stillness as movement’.

Week 3: Breathwork & Space - exploring breathwork  foundations  - Qi gong, Yogic & Vim Hoff. Mapping this onto movement & exchanging.

Week 4: Character work - What is the structure of a good story? The many selves we embody & Tools for character development drawn from Krump/Punk lineage.

About the facilitators:

Saskia Horton (they/them) and Aamina Stenhouse are a dance duo who have been growing in practice together since Dec ‘23. Saskia’s facilitation practice centres slowness, sustainability and play as their street style foundations cross pollinate with their experience healing from chronic illness. Aamina’s individual teaching practice focuses on our connection to sound and how we illustrate this through actively learning to listen deeply and allowing the body to move itself. Through the way their methods naturally converse and inform one another, the duo began cultivating a workshop series about storytelling through movement. This idea explores selfhood, lineage and developing your own movement methodology, employing Sas & Aamina’s shared ideology of slowness, play and the pursuit of internal understanding through movement.
