Climate Question Time

ThePriestley International Centre for Climatebrings together researchers from across the University of Leeds to work collaboratively in areas related to climate change, its impacts and response strategies. It is named after Joseph Priestley (1733-1804), the natural scientist whose work on gases – he identified carbon dioxide when he lived and worked in Leeds – feeds into the University’s work on carbon sinks today.With a focus on delivering research to underpin robust and timely climate solutions, the Priestley International Centre for Climate represents a major investment of £1.5million by the University of Leeds to strengthen the University’s position as a world leader in climate research. Priestley International Centre for Climate

The Paris Agreement on climate change has committed to 'pursuing efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C' - but what does this mean for those already experiencing the impacts of climate change and can it really be done?
This 'Climate Question Time' event to mark the launch of the <A TARGET="_blank" HREF="https://www.priestley.leeds.ac.uk/" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Priestley International Centre for Climate</A> addresses the question, 'Are there achievable solutions for limiting climate impacts at 1.5°C level?'. The debate will feature:
- Lord Deben, Chairman of the Committee on Climate Change.
- Laurie Goering, Climate editor, Thomson Reuters Foundation.
- Piers Forster, Director of the Priestley Centre, University of Leeds.
- Jan Fuglestvedt, Research Director of CICERO - Oslo.
- Myles Allen, Professor of Geosystem Science, Environmental Change Institute, University of Oxford
- Jo House, Lecturer, Cabot Institute, University of Bristol
The debate will be chaired by Leo Hickman, former Guardian journalist and Carbon Brief Director.

Registration and refreshments are available from 7.00pm. Please aim to be in your seats no later than 7.25pm to allow a prompt start at 7.30pm.

The Rupert Beckett Lecture Theatre is located in the Michael Sadler Building on University Road just off the main entrance to the University on Woodhouse Lane. Standing with your back to the Parkinson Building (white building with a clock tower), follow the path to your right then turn right underneath the link building. The Michael Sadler building is the first building on your left. (The Michael Sadler Building is marked on this campus map http://www.leeds.ac.uk/campusmap?location=1197). Go through the main front doors to the building, go down the stairs. The Rupert Beckett lecture theatre is ahead (doors on the left or the right).
