About this workshop

Designed for writers, directors, producers and script editors, Climate Spring’s World Building workshops help unlock our imagination to create commercially viable stories across genres that envision life beyond fossil fuels and extractive systems. We offer practical frameworks that turn climate science, technology and solutions into creative inspiration. We explore what creating relatable near-future worlds and regenerative storytelling can look and feel like, along with the ideas and principles that can get us there.

This workshop is focused on Characters as a way to develop stories that show the regenerative ways we need to transition to. You’ll explore how to embed regenerative world building frameworks to inspire and enhance your characters and stories without compromising on entertaining, compelling storytelling.

Who is this workshop for?

Writers, directors, producers and script editors developing a new scripted project keen to integrate regenerative world building into their story and inspire their projects with new ideas.

What does this workshop cover?

• You’ll work to define your new characters, exploring how they might reflect both the reality of climate challenges we face and the transformations needed to address them.
• Through guided exercises, we’ll introduce archetypes of characters living through our changing world as well as patterns of the near future world they could inhabit, inspiring you to craft and shape your characters’ motivations, conflicts, relationships, and journeys.
• There will be a mix of presentations as well as guided working and development time. You will be part of a small group, but you’ll be working individually on your own project throughout the session.

A note on IP and your project info:

You will NOT need to share information or IP about your project, that will be kept to yourself.

What you’ll gain:

• Develop characters with depth and complexity, reflecting different stages of transformation towards a regenerative future.
• Insight into how societies transform, and the roles people (and your characters) can play within those shifts.
• A framework of “Roles in Transformation” archetypes you can use for character development.
• Practical tools you can continue using in your own writing and development practices.

The power of storytelling is to show what a regenerative future can look and feel like, to illuminate solutions and inspire paths towards creating a better and fairer future for all.

As part of Climate Spring’s year-long world building programme, we hold regular online workshops designed to equip writers, directors, producers and script editors with practical tools to help unlock our imagination to create commercially viable stories across genres that envision life beyond fossil fuels and extractive systems. We offer practical frameworks that turn climate science, technology and solutions into creative inspiration, without sacrificing commercially compelling and creative storytelling.

Please note: Regular online workshops will be run throughout the year, across different time-zones to accommodate our global community. Each workshop is designed as a stand-alone session and can be attended individually.
