James has had over 15 years experience in outdoor activity leadership, coaching and guiding.He is a qualified mountain instructor, teaching climbing, abseiling, ice climbing and navigation skills. He is also a qualified canoeing and kayaking coach on rivers and at sea. He also teaches bushcraft and is a British Canoeing Camp Craft and Expedition Skills provider.The experience of being in nature can be uplifting and transformational. <p>If you would like to teach climbing on artificial climbing walls or mobile climbing towers then this is the course for you.</p><p>In this two day course you can get to grips with all the technical skills and safety requirements required to safely supervise people who wish to climb indoors on bouldering walls, roped climbing walls and auto belays.</p><p>This course does not cover lead climbing, for that you will need the <a href="https://mountainwise.co.uk/mountain-training/climbing-wall-development-instructor/" title="https://mountainwise.co.uk/mountain-training/climbing-wall-development-instructor/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Climbing Wall Development Instructor</a> scheme which is a higher qualification.</p><p>If you are interested in abseiling training you can also do the <a href="https://mountainwise.co.uk/mountain-training/climbing-wall-instructor-abseil-module/" title="https://mountainwise.co.uk/mountain-training/climbing-wall-instructor-abseil-module/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Climbing Wall Instructor Abseil Module</a> which is an add on module to this course.</p><h2>PRE-REQUISITES AND REGISTRATION</h2><p>Mountain Training requires that all students are registered with them prior to commencing the course.</p><p>Registration, course guidance notes and other resources <a href="https://www.mountain-training.org/qualifications/climbing/climbing-wall-instructor/" title="https://www.mountain-training.org/qualifications/climbing/climbing-wall-instructor/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">are available from Mountain Training</a>.</p><h2>TRAINING</h2><p>Climbing Wall Instructor training lasts for two days and will cover:</p><p>The Climbing Wall Instructor syllabus</p><p>What to expect at assessment</p><p>Feedback on your performance and areas to focus on prior to assessment</p><h2>SYLLABUS</h2><p>Technical competence (including equipment, belaying, personal skills and background knowledge)</p><p>Management and decision making (including planning, managing participants, decision making, knowledge and demonstration of techniques and managing other staff)</p><p>Teaching and learning skills</p><p>The climbing environment (including access, etiquette and ethics)</p><h2>CONSOLIDATION</h2><p>After completing a training course, use the feedback from your course director and the skills checklist to identify syllabus areas you need to practise.</p><h2>ASSESSMENT</h2><p>The Climbing Wall Instructor assessment is one day (minimum six hours).</p><p>You will be assessed against the syllabus competencies in the candidate handbook.</p><p>At the end of the assessment you will receive one of three results:</p><p>Pass</p><p>Defer (requires a partial reassessment)</p><p>Fail (requires a full reassessment)</p>
