Closer Each Day is one of the leading improvised theatre companies in the country. Our Improvised Soap Opera has run continually for over 12 years and is the longest running improvised story in the world. Over the years our unique show has allowed us to develop a unique set of improvising and storytelling tools that can transform your approach to improvisation.

These one day courses will cover a variety of topics and are aimed at all levels of experience.

The courses are:

Saturday 18th May 2024

AN INTRODUCTION TO SUPPORTIVE IMPROVISATION

This is a course for absolute beginners, performers looking to explore new skills or those who have tried improv in the past and found it's "not for them". This is another way of looking at Improvisation - as a supportive, collaborative process where our primary aim is to bring out the spontaneity in each other. This is a fantastic way of learning to improvise from scratch, or changing or our of thinking about improvising. It doesn't have to be scary!!

Sunday 23rd June 2024:

AN EMOTIONAL APPROACH TO IMPROVISATION aka Don’t Think it, Feel It!

This course explores how we can create scenes and rich stories simply through our emotions without having to come up with “the great idea”. We teach techniques which will allow you to be free to perform and avoid getting in stuck your head. This course has been described as “nurturing and supportive but also inspiring and challenging” and “fun and stimulating.” It is suitable for all levels.

We shall have more masterclasses throughout the year - stay posted!

Yes. The courses, their content, and the physical building itself, are accessible for all humans and all needs.

It is just outside of it, but very close to where the zone comes in so do take care and take a left immediately after driving past the theatre!

Closer Each Day Company are the creators of fortnightly show and Bristol cult comedy, Closer Each Day: The Improvised Soap Opera, which has been going nearly 13 years (making it the world's longest continuous improvised narrative and the longest-running show outside of London in the UK!) and is one of the few serialised theatre shows in the world. The company is made up of some of Bristol's finest actors, theatre-makers and musicians. Besides their regular show at the Wardrobe Theatre, they have appeared on Brunel's SS Great Britain, at the Bristol Improv Theatre, the Tobacco Factory, Arnos Vale Cemetery and at the Edinburgh Fringe. Their show No Expectations: The Unscripted Dickens and its previous incarnation, Steamed: An Improvised Dickensian Christmas Tale, has been perfrormed at the Wardrobe, the SS Great Britain , the Salisbury Playhouse and on tour at venues across the south-west. The company has many projects in the pipeline and has an unquenchable thirst for getting better and reaching further all the time. The company's masterclasses are very popular and they are continuing their programme, with a variety of courses for all levels. Patti Stiles is the company's Spirtual Godmother and mentor, she is pure magic.
