Cloud Computing and the GDPR 
 
The Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS), Queen Mary University of London, is pleased to announce the sixth seminar of the series in Paris on Regulating Cloud Computing and the Internet of Things.   This seminar on Cloud Computing and the GDPR will be presented by Ulrich Wuermeling, Visiting Professor at CCLS.  The GDPR introduces specific requirements for processor agreements and direct legal obligations of processors. The rules are designed for traditional data centres and create new challenges for cloud computing. The presentation will look into these challenges and potential solutions. It will also look into the unforeseeable future for international data transfers in light of the recent jurisprudence of the CJEU and potential Brexit scenarios.

About the Speaker
 
Ulrich Wuermeling is a Visiting Professor at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS). 
He is an attorney at the law firm Latham & Watkins in London, specialising in privacy and data protection law. His academic and professional work focuses on European data protection law. In 1993, he obtained his LLM in International Business Law from Queen Mary University of London and wrote his LLM-thesis about the - then draft - European Data Protection Directive. In 1998, he obtained his doctorate on the subject “trade barrier privacy” from the University of Würzburg, Germany. He regularly speaks and publishes on data protection law subjects and is co-editor of the blog <A HREF="http://www.globalprivacyblog.com" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">www.globalprivacyblog.com</A>. Since 2000, he is chairman of the annual data protection conference (Datenschutzkongress) in Berlin. Prior to joining the London office of Latham & Watkins, he headed the German Technology Transactions practice and was global co-chair of the Information Technology Industry Practice Group of the firm. As an attorney, he advises on complex data protection matters and represents clients in disputes with data protection authorities, consumer protection groups or individuals.
