A link with details will be sent out to attendees in advance.The meeting of clouds and sediment suggests an intersection of disparate temporalities and materialities – time in fleeting or geological registers, matter as diffuse and fugitive or compressed and layered. Clouds are mutable, transient and can be seen from afar but merge into surroundings up close, while sediment carries the weight of millennia in skin-like layers, each of which is an accumulation of histories. The works presented in this Hyphen Lab address these convergences through dealing with matters of temporality, embodiment, recording, ecological practice, social ecologies and more-than human life. Cloud Sediments is convened as part of Ecological Futurisms, an emerging collective of CREAM faculty and doctoral researchers who explore modes of togetherness and exposition in the face of growing and ongoing global and local challenges.<a href="http://hy-phen.space/cloud-sediments-2022/artists/matthias-kispert/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The texture of air</a>A participatory performance by Matthias KispertThe texture of air explores the intersections of breathing, language and bodies being-in-common with a collective voice performance. Participants are given a text score split into four alternating voices which contains simple performance instructions and a libretto through which breath and air become both subject and material of performance. This enables participation without prior musical knowledge or need for a rehearsal. Distributed across the space in four groups, bodies launch words across the expanse in the manner of balls being thrown in a game. Words are stretched, repeated, sentence fragments exchanged, the interpretation of the score worked out in the moment, collectively in a performance in which pre-determined structure meets spontaneous chaos.Please bring your own headphones as this exhibition features video works. A number of headphones will be available at the gallery, which are cleaned before and after use.
