On the outskirts of the capital of Chad, determined and devoted single mother Amina works tirelessly to provide for herself and her 15-year-old daughter Maria. When Amina discovers Maria is pregnant and does not want to keep the child, the two women seek an abortion despite it being condemned by both religion and law. A stunning vision of female solidarity, Lingui: The Sacred Bonds is a bracing, fearless and affecting portrait of community and sisterhood in a world dominated and run so heavily in favour of men. There will be a post-screening discussion with Afro-Caribbean Elder’s Association and KWISA (Women’s Association). Tickets Available Here
Foresight: Short Film Programme // In partnership with Channel 4 & Film 4
Foresight is an urgent anthology of short films that explores alternate realities through the lens of culturally diverse filmmakers who call the UK home. This compilation contributes to a perspective continually missing from our screens... a future where people of colour exist! Foresight was conceived and produced by Fiona Lamptey and commissioned by Film4. It presents an opportunity to address the uncertainty that living in the UK has posed to people of colour and is a response to the rising level of racism and intolerance.
“By imagining the future, we can kickstart a necessary conversation and inspire change. We don’t want the futures presented in these films – so what do we do to change that?” - Fiona LampteyThere will be a directors' Q&A via Zoom after the screening.
