Event description
The International Network of Universities is a global consortium of 10 member universities, delivering workshops for its students and staff.

About this event

In this panel event, we hear about two experiences of COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) projects from the perspective of two INU member universities and their COIL partners.

James Madison University (USA) & Universidad Tecnológica de Bolivar (Colombia)

As part of global exchanges, James Madison University (JMU) in USA and Universidad Tecnológica de Bolivar (UTB) in Colombia focused on COIL initiatives to enhance existing collaborations. The partnership is between a Global Studies course at JMU and an International Business course at UTB. During this session, colleagues from JMU and UTB will share lesson learned and best practices on the development of COIL and why COIL fits in access and equity efforts in global education.

De Montfort University (UK) and California State University, Chico (USA)

Criminology students from De Montfort University and California State University, Chico have co-learned the module ‘Prison, Punishment and Society’ - exploring current debates in criminology and comparing of how penal systems operate in the UK and the United States. Colleagues from DMU will discuss academic delivery and pedagogy, showcase student (and staff) outcomes, and reflect on successes, lessons learned and future plans.

Felix Wang: Senior Associate Executive Director, Center for Global Engagement, James Madison University

Dr Tian Ma, Lecturer in Criminology, De Montfort University
