Join us for a gathering hosted by the Co-operative Party BAME Network, bringing together people from minoritised ethnicities across Britain
This panel discussion will rigorously explore how the principles of Ubuntu – focusing on excellence, relational, communal, societal, environmental, and well-being – can and must guide our work, advocacy, and political action within the Labour and Cooperative Parties, BAME Network and the wider political landscape.
Originating from Southern African philosophy, Ubuntu translates to "I am because we are," embodying the profound belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity. It emphasises our interconnectedness, mutual respect, and collective responsibility – principles that are not just philosophical ideals but fundamental to the Cooperative Party's values and our political mission.
Overview: Together, we’ll explore urgent themes affecting global majority communities today such as economic justice, inclusive public services, community leadership, climate action, and democratic representation — all through the lens of co-operation and solidarity. We’ll look at how these challenges intersect with wider issues like the cost of living, access to housing, and the fight for fairer public services.
This is a space to share lived experience, build networks, and spark ideas rooted in the Co-operative Party’s values of equality, democracy, and solidarity.
Speakers: This powerful event features Labour & Co-operative Party MPs, Local Government representatives and BAME members and societies, chaired by Kemi Akinola, Chair Co-operative Party BAME Network.
Attendence: All are welcome. Food, refreshments, and a supportive, inclusive atmosphere provided. Bring your ideas worth sharing and be part of building a co-operative future where everyone’s voice is heard.
