About this event

  • Event lasts 2 days 8 hours

Event Overview

CW25 will centre around future proofing research software and how we evolve together as a diverse community. Over three days, delegates will be invited to take part in discussion sessions, collaborative ideas sessions, and hack day sessions, to explore together and create together.

Delegates can also expect inspirational keynote sessions and lightning talks, focussing on the changes in landscape, what research software will look like in the future, and the challenges for the research software community.

And that's not all! As CW25 will be hosted in bonnie Scotland, we’re bringing an authentic Scottish flair to the experience. From the stunning Stirling surroundings to a traditional bagpiper and ceilidh dance, CW25 will have a delightful Scottish theme woven throughout. Plus, enjoy lunch and dinner, included in your ticket.

Location

Collaborations Workshop 2025 (CW25) will take place as a hybrid event from Tuesday 13 May to Thursday 15 May 2025 at Stirling Court Hotel, University of Stirling. We encourage all delegates to familiarise themselves with the CW25 Venue Guide.

This year's event will be delivered in a hybrid format on Zoom and in person at Stirling Court Hotel, based on the grounds of the University of Stirling. Stirling is a beautiful, historic city with easy access to beautiful, wild landscapes and outdoor activities. Stirling is also ideally placed as a gateway to the Scottish Highlands and is only a short train trip from Edinburgh or Glasgow.

Who should attend

The Software Sustainability Institute’s Collaborations Workshop series brings together researchers, developers, innovators, managers, funders, publishers, policymakers, leaders and educators to explore best practices and the future of research software.

What to Expect

CW25 will follow the unconference philosophy — where participants get to choose which proposed discussions happen, what problems they solve in the Collaborative Ideas session, and which team they want to join for the Hack Day. In addition there will be plenary presentations, speed blogging, exploratory sessions on selected topics and a social programme to support networking and new collaborations. The CW format offers a novel way to support its themes which participants find both useful and enjoyable.

The Hack Day allows participants to realise the ideas coming from the Collaborations Workshop. Successful hack projects need not all be code — they can include any combination of software, specifications, guidance and other materials — thus enabling people from all backgrounds to participate. The Hack Day will focus on topics related to the themes of the workshop and there will be prizes for the best team efforts. Remember good hacks are cool, better ones are potentially impactful.

Visit the CW25 webpage for more information about the event, including the programme, speakers, etc.
