Collage Workshop - Cosmic Axis: A Mythic World Tree

Union CornerStonehouse, England
Friday, May 15  •  12 PM - 2 PM
Overview

Explore a magical world of trees, myth and imagination in this slow paced, relaxing collage workshop - inspired by the cosmic World Tree.

Explore a magical world of trees, myth and imagination in this slow paced, relaxing collage workshop. Inspired by the cosmic World Tree - the bridge between earth, sky and the realms beyond - you will create art that reflects your own inner landscape.

World-Tree, found in myths around the world, is a version of the axis-mundi or world axis - extending through the worlds and connecting them together. It is an important cosmological symbol in shamanism, arguably mankind’s oldest spiritual practice. Envisioned as vast in scale, it encompassed the universe - rooted deep in the underworld, the realm of the dead, its branches touched the stars in the upperworld, the abode of the gods.

In this workshop, you will:

- build your own World Tree collage with layered papers, textures and found imagery- discover the tree as a bridge: roots (hidden depths), trunk (present self), branches (dreams and spirit)- learn about the symbolism of Cosmic Tree- follow gentle prompts and let your intuition guide your creative process- slow down and enjoy a meditative, reflective art experience.

No experience required. Everyone is welcome. All materials and refreshments are included.

This workshop is hosted and guided by collage artist Agnieszka Zając (@_agazart_) a founder of @plymouthcollagecollective.
