An online presentation from Gawthorpe Textiles Collection examining the delicate and decorative world of whitework embroidery.

In this online presentation we will be showcasing some of the lovely pieces of whitework in our collection. We will be taking a close up look at the accomplished embroidery on costume accessories such as fichus, pelerines and cuffs as well as discussing what they would have been worn with.We will also be taking a look at examples showing how the embroidery was worked and looking at pages from two sketchbooks of beautiful hand-drawn embroidery designs from the early 19th century.The session will be run online through Zoom with the presentation lasting around an hour followed by time for questions and informal discussion.The money we make from this event goes straight back into supporting our work with the collection: to use the items to inspire and educate people and preserve them for future generations to enjoy as well.

Tips for Accessing Zoom WebinarsIt is important to us that you get the most out of your experience with our webinars. If you are signing up and are unfamiliar with the process, here are a few tips that will help you to ensure that you are set up and ready in advance.Before the webinar- The webinars are being delivered using Zoom. You do not require a camera or microphone to view the webinar, but you do need sound capability to hear the presentation. - You will be sent notification emails 2 days before, 2 hours before and 15 minutes before the event. These will provide you with instructions of how to join the webinar. The emails are automated and will be sent via Eventbrite using the email address that you signed up for tickets with. Please ensure that your email address is correct otherwise you will not receive the notifications. - If you think that you have not received the notification emails, please check your email spam / junk folders. The emails will clearly state that they are in relation to the webinar that you have booked on to. - If you are still unable to locate the joining details, please email us at info@gawthorpetextiles.org.uk and a team member will be on hand before the webinar to respond to enquiries. Starting the webinar- You’re link will only take you through to the webinar if we have activated the webinar. We will do this a minimum of 15 minutes before the event to enable participants to join ahead of the start time. When you access the webinar you should either see the Gawthorpe Textiles Collection logo or the title slide for the webinar, you will not see the presenter live on screen. - For most users clicking on the link provided will allow easy access to the webinar. Zoom is compatible with a broad range of mobiles, tablets and desktop devices. If you experience difficulties viewing the webinar this may be due to a slow internet connection or if you are using an older device. If this is the case, try exiting Zoom and then re-clicking the link. Be patient, it may take a little while for your device to synchronise with the webinar.
