About this Event

Collide: Sonic Portraits and Interactive Environments workshop

Have you ever wondered what images sound like?

Join Matthew DF Evans, artist and doctoral researcher at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire for a workshop that explores pixel data sonification. This session will introduce the participants to processes of making sound and music through creatively engaging with images and data. The results of this workshop will be showcased in the evening for Digbeth Weekender, as Vivid Projects opens its doors to a lively and engaged audience for October First Friday.

During the workshop, you will learn some of the basics of Max, a graphical programming language, in which you can utilise your webcam to be processed into an interactive sonic environment. You will need a copy of Max installed on your laptop, this can be found here https://cycling74.com/downloads. This technology works best with laptops that have an inbuilt webcam, or access to a webcam connected via a USB. You do not need any previous experience with graphical programming or coding, just an interest in exploring the relationship between sound and image, and seeing how this work can be experienced both within a workshop and as part of a public event.

Limited to 6 participants.
