About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours 30 minutes

This course is designed to support children to develop their understanding of sentence structure and expand the length of their sentences they use using a colour coded system. This system can be used to develop comprehension and aid expression in children with speech, language and communication needs in a mainstream or specialist setting.

Aims:

  • To increase understanding of why visual strategies such as colour coding are important for children with SLCN
  • To explore how Colourful Semantics can be used in your setting
  • To discuss how you can implement these strategies
  • The sentence elements covered in the course are: 'Who' (Subject); 'What doing' (Verb); 'To what' (Object); 'Where' (Location); 'When' (Time); 'To whom' (Recipient); 'What like?' (Adjective/emotion); 'How' (Adverbs); 'Why' (Cause and effect)

Ideal for:

Teachers and childcare/education support staff in all Foundation stage or Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 settings who support children with communication needs.
