Join Xavier Laurent Leopold, a multidisciplinary artist, author, and lecturer from South London; and Hospital Rooms in our upcoming series of art workshops exploring time, introspection, faith, and collective memory.
Bringing creativity, colour, and kindness to mental health hospital, the charity Hospital Rooms is hosting a series of 3 workshops leading to the creation of a permanent artwork to be installed at Parkview Clinic this autumn.
The workshops, held at Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) will be taking place over a 3-week period on Friday 9th, 16th and 23rd May, with each session running from 2pm - 3pm in The Garden Studio.
With assistance from the Early Intervention Team at FTB, these workshops will also be supported by clinical staff members in each session.
As part of NHS England’s Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework (PCREF), which supports trusts and providers to ensure that they are responsible for co-producing and implementing concrete actions to reduce racial inequalities within their services; these workshops are aimed at:
- Black and Asian Males aged 16-25 who have lived experience of mental health services (including their friends, family, and carers).
In each session, led by the artist, we will be exploring varying mediums and ways of making, and we invite you to join all 3 sessions as each will build upon ideas discussed in the previous session:
- 9th May 2PM - 3PM: Who am I? - Exploring identity through artmaking
- 16th May 2PM - 3:30PM: Form & Emotion - Working with clay to explore how emotion can be communicated through art
- 23rd May 2PM - 3:30PM: Channeling your Inner Light - Working with varying mediums to create a moodboard (Parents and Carers welcome!)
- Food provided!
No arts experience is necessary to take part in these workshops. If you are unable to attend all 3 sessions, we kindly invite you to the sessions you can as this will be an experience like no other!
