Common Ground Exhibition Opening

Founded in 2013, Turf Projects is the first entirely artist-run contemporary art space in Croydon, South London.Established by creatives with a personal connection to the borough, Turf now comprises; a gallery space exhibiting work from emerging and established artists; an artists workspace and events space; and a small studio provision for artists and makers.We endeavor to create free, high quality exhibitions and events for Croydon both at our workshop & gallery space in the Whitgift Centre and out in the Croydon community.

This event follows a Curator's Tour of Rosa's Fungus Press poster commission at sites around Croydon.

Free &amp; open to all. Artist-designed cocktails, with BYOB also welcome.Special Sunday opening &amp; launch of our studio members&#x27; take-over of the Turf Projects gallery space &#x27;Common Ground&#x27;; an exhibition developed in response to &#x27;Cultural Field&#x27; by Rosa-Johan Uddoh. Collaboratively curated by six female and non-binary artists; this group exhibition spans sculpture, painting, audio, video and more. The exhibition draws upon themes of race and gender in sport, football within popular culture and access to space present within Rosa&#x27;s work. Much of the work in Common Ground playfully repurposes the aesthetics of football to explore these themes; the pitch and equipment are hijacked to become sculptural objects, team strips become costume, and movements of players are reimagined as scores for performance.This event follows a Curator&#x27;s Tour of Rosa&#x27;s Fungus Press poster commission [link to webpage for tour] at sites around Croydon, and takes place ahead of UEFA Women’s Euros match that evening.Image: Detail from ‘Compact Sport’, Amy J Wilson
