Community Cookout

The Social Hub GlasgowGlasgow, Glasgow
Sunday, May 17  •  12 PM - 8 PM
Overview

On Sunday 17th May 2026, BAMILEK and The Social Hub Glasgow are bringing back The Cookout – a love letter to gathering!

From 12PM – 8PM, we’re creating an intergenerational third space where people can slow down, connect, create and simply be.

Because somewhere along the way, socialising became centred around spending, drinking, and rushing through moments instead of truly being in them. The Cookout is our reminder that gathering can still be soft, playful and intentional.

This is a space built on Food, Art, Textiles + Music – where culture is not just observed, but shared.

Bring the clothes, objects and forgotten things you no longer use and take part in our Donate + Swap initiative.

DONATE

Clothing, electronics, homeware, trinkets, décor and everyday essentials are all welcome. The goal is simple: to reduce what ends up in landfill and give every item a second life.

Donations will be redistributed across both Scotland and Cameroon, supporting community spaces, families and organisations that can make real use of them. Even if something feels battered or bruised, we believe there is always another purpose waiting for it.

SWAP

See something you genuinely love? Swap it for something of similar value and let your belongings continue their story with someone new.

CREATE

Sit down, stay awhile. Paint, draw, collage, knit, customise, and play. Our creative stations are open invitations to reconnect with your hands and your imagination.

Outside in the courtyard, the energy shifts. We’ll have a canvas were everyone can leave their mark, music flowing through the speakers, skipping ropes, bubbles and space to move – because joy should be visible, and adults deserve permission to play too.

Inside, the theatre becomes home – a space for exchanging, creating, and staying awhile. Expect our Donate + Swap station, creative tables for painting, drawing, collage, knitting and customisation, open DJ decks, good music and the kind of atmosphere that reminds you what being part of a village can feel like.

And of course, there will be food.

Auntie-approved, soul-filling, conversation-starting food. Plantain, beignet, fried rice, grilled chicken, meat pies, bean stew and more – because what is a cookout without a buffet that brings everyone back for seconds?

The Cookout is about cultural exchange.
It’s about preserving tradition by living it.
It’s about making space for people to feel seen.

Whether you come with family, friends or by yourself, you’ll leave with something – maybe a full plate, maybe a new connection, maybe a reminder of yourself.

Either way, we’ll save you a seat.

Come hungry.
Come curious.
Come ready to play.
