Join others interested in "Understanding community needs and challenges for Digital Action”: mapping skills, gaps, and digital solutions

Do you work with or are you interested in community groups (by this we mean groups of people who work for the benefit of the public, within a certain community)? Are you interested in running a citizen science project, a makeathon or a hackathon? Are you interested how members of the public or community groups interact with voluntary organisations? Do you have ideas about how Higher Education Institutions can support community groups to improve their digital skills? Do you want to know more about what methods you can use to for Digital Action or how to design successful citizen science and similar activities? Or do you simply want to meet some like-minded people interested in community groups? If so, come and join us! We are <a href="https://heidiproject.eu/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">HEIDI</a>, a research project at UCL, and we are interested in what Higher Education Insitutions can do to support community groups, volunatry organisations, and citizens to shape better societies. We invite you to participate in a roundtable discussion with people from and working with community groups across London, the UK, Europe, and the world about Digital Action. The roundtable will provide space to explore your ideas about digital skills, how these impact community groups from engaging with Digital Action, which digital skills you think are essential, and how Higher Education Institutions and voluntary organisations can offer you opportunities to and support you and members of your group to develop digital skills. Included in the hour-long event will be the following presentations and discussion points: <ul><li>What is Digital Action? How much have you been involved in Digital Action?</li><li>What is the impact of using Digital Action?</li><li>How HEIDI understands Digital Action</li><li>What Digital Skills are important for Digital Action?</li><li>The connections between digital skills and roles </li></ul>W﻿ho is this event for?This is a specific roundtable designed to bring together anyone from around the world who are from community groups, working with them, or interested in them. Over the session we will explore through discussion and online activities about what support community groups need from Higher Education Institutions or voluntary organisations, and what digital skills or resources are necessary for Digital Action. We will also discuss how digital skills have impacted your experience with Digital Action, and how Digital Action might offer opportunities to develop these skills! I﻿f you are interested in community groups, Digital Action, or digital skills, you are welcome to attend. You do not have to be in the UK - you can be anywhere in the world. You also do not need to have participated in Digital Action yet - you may simply be interested in the idea!This event will be run both in-person and online, so all participants will be sent a Zoom link.We have booked a room at UCL for those who would like to attend the event on campus. We will e-mail you with the room location if you choose the &quot;In person on UCL campus&quot; ticket. If you choose the &quot;Zoom&quot; ticket, we will e-mail you with a Zoom link a few hours before the event. Following the event we will have a 30 minute period in-person where you can get to know other attendees. W﻿hat is the HEIDI project?The Erasmus+ project, HEIDI (“Digital Action at HEIs as a catalyst for social change in the Covid-19 crisis”), aims to provide training (for staff, decision makers, students, librarians, and communities) enabling Higher Education Institutions to better embrace and support bottom-up digital action (i.e. hackathons, makeathons and citizen science initiatives). Until 2023 we will be running 90 events (in the UK, France, Malta, Cyprus and Greece) and aim to engage more than 3,000 people.L﻿ast year we held a series of roundtables with HEI staff and students, which you can read about in the UCL ExCiteS blog <a href="https://uclexcites.blog/2021/12/20/mapping-the-barriers-and-drivers-of-digital-action-within-higher-education-institutions-project-heidi/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">here</a> and the HEIDI Project page <a href="https://heidiproject.eu/io1-study-on-drivers-and-barriers-of-he-engagement-in-da-as-catalyst-for-social-change-for-he-staff-and-citizens/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">here</a>.T﻿he HEIDI Project holds regular webinars and workshops, and you can find some of our past talks on our YouTube channel.
