Event description
Community Leisure UK, Swim England and Swim Wales are pleased to partner for what will be the third annual Learn to Swim Conference.

About this Event

This Conference has been co-designed with Community Leisure UK members to allow delegates to learn and develop their knowledge on relevant swimming topics.

The Conference will be a full day with specialist speakers and engaging workshops. Please note that due to the coronavirus restrictions, this Conference will take place virtually for which joining details will be circulated to registered delegates. We hope your organisation will be able to join us on this informative and interactive day.

9.30 Welcome to the third annual Learn to Swim Conference

9.45 What’s happened since 2019 - Impact of Covid

  • An update on developments around Swim Safe, School Swimming and Water Safety Charter, and Accreditation, followed by Q&A.

10.30 Managing Swimmer’s Behaviour, Guest Speaker, Sue Cowley, Education Specialist and Author

Sue Cowley will be sharing some of the most common mistakes that educators can often make when managing learner behaviour. She’ll be examining the key strategies and techniques that lead to better behaviour, explaining the importance of clear communication, high expectations and consistency in creating a safe and respectful climate for learning.

12.00 Lunchbreak

13.00 Workshop Session 1

  • Workshop A - Development of the disciplines through the LTS framework and exit routes into the sports
  • Workshop B - Teacher recruitment

14.00 Workshop Session 2

  • Workshop C - Introduction into the para swimming pathway and classification
  • Workshop D - Physical literacy

What is Physical Literacy? Why is it important? Why do we need to think about it in our swimming lessons? How can Physical Literacy have a wider benefit to your customers and your centre? Physical Skills + Confidence + Motivation + Knowledge + Understanding = Physical Literacy.

A session that will be beneficial for ALL staff to attend to develop and enhance their knowledge.

We are joined by Clare Roberts, Foundations and Participation Lead for Sport Wales, who will be explaining the importance of developing Physical Literacy and how our swimming lessons provide a unique opportunity for our participants to do so!

With these elements a person is more likely to be physically literate – be happy, healthy and confident – and have the tools to enjoy being active.
