Community Walk: The ‘Lost River’ of Enfield

Community Walk: The ‘Lost River’ of Enfield

Enfield Town StationEnfield, England
Sunday, Jan 18, 2026 from 11 am to 3 pm GMT
Overview

4.2 miles from Enfield Town Station to Mason’s Corner (Green Lanes, Winchmore Hill & bus routes for onward journeys). All ticket event.

A free, guided winter walk (4.2 miles) along a stretch of the New River, with a stop for lunch (bring your own packed lunch or buy at café). There will be toilet facilities at points en route.

The walk will chart a stretch of the New River’s original course, including the attractive Enfield Loop, but also uncover some of the newer, more hidden, sections, revealing how this man made waterway evolved in an increasingly urban landscape.

This walk is hosted by Better Streets for Enfield/Living Streets Enfield who, among other things, campaign for a borough that provides a better, safer and more pleasant walking experience for Enfield’s residents.

We will begin at Enfield Town station which is on the Weaver Line, while the nearby Enfield Chase Station is on the Hertford Loop line. Enfield Town is served by many bus routes: 121, 191, 192, 231, 307, 313, 317, 329, 377, 456, W8, W9.

The walk will end at Mason's Corner, the junction of Green Lanes/Green Dragon Lane, where bus routes 125 & 329 can take you back to Enfield Town or to other destinations.

Dogs on leads are welcome.

The surfaces will be mostly pavement and gravel path, with no steep gradients.

Please check the weather forecast for the day and dress appropriately, including waterproof footwear.

Free to attend but please book your ticket!
