The Lower Ure Conservation Trust is a charity dedicated to the restoration of once productive sand and gravel quarries to varied, wildlife-rich habitats.We run Nosterfield Nature Reserve, near Ripon in North Yorkshire, now widely regarded as one of the best examples of wetland grassland in the north of England.

Join us for a day making sand bag planters to help create new fen habitat at Nosterfield Quarry! All ages welcome!

Nosterfield Quarry

Help us to create exciting new fen habitat at the quarry extension of Nosterfield Nature Reserve as part of our 'Restoring the Swale &amp; Ure Washlands' project, funded by the Green Recovery Challenge Fund. The new habitat we create will provide homes for birds, fish and invertebrates for years to come, and may even attract rare species such as common crane and spotted crake! We will be creating sand bag planters full of specialist fenland species, propagated and grown in our very own plant nursery. The bags will be left for a few months to expand their rootstocks and will be planted out on the shores of Flasks Lake in late summer. This task is family friendly and all ages are welcome however all children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Bring sensible footwear, clothes you don't mind getting dirty, a spot of lunch and a flask of tea!Meet at Nosterfield Quarry car park at 10am.
