Join us for the book launch of "Comparing Pathways of Desistance: an International Perspective" written by Dr Ruwani Fernando and published by Routledge, in their International Series on Desistance and Rehabilitation. You can read more about this series here – and about the book itself here.

This book showcases comparative research into experiences and perspectives of desisters in England and France. Through in-depth, qualitative interviews in each country, and the analysis of narratives, the study provides insight into ways in which specific national settings help us to understand aspects of people’s lives away from crime.

The talk will overview findings, focusing on the links between broad structural context and individual pathways out of crime. Guest speakers will draw from themes identified in the book to discuss their own research.

Adam Hunt is a doctoral researcher at the University of Sheffield, examining desistance processes in Japan.

Dr Nicola Collett is a Lecturer in Criminology at De Montfort University and specialises on the impact of criminal records.

The event will be chaired by Prof James Banks - Head of Research, Department of Law and Criminology, Sheffield Hallam University.
