Death, Trauma &amp; Bereavement Support Dr Ryan Kemp, Director of Therapies, writes:The pandemic is leading to so many people dying. Some are people we know, our friends, family and also our colleagues. For some of us our patients are dying in greater numbers than we have ever known before. We are doing our best, but we cannot prevent these deaths because this pandemic is so widespread and so dangerous. Facing so much death is emotionally taxing. It strikes at our hearts and may even make us feel like failures. Our sense of ourselves as professionals can be diminished. Facing so much death is on its own a trauma. But in addition, facing so much pain, exhaustion and challenge can be an additional trauma. This pandemic has the potential to be so damaging.We know that some colleagues are suffering even more pain because they can’t travel to funerals here or abroad and we realise how painful this must be. Again, this may be traumatic to lose someone, but to be prevented from paying respect to them through traditional rituals can add to this trauma. Yet, many of us are coping and managing to go on day by day. Some of us are not managing. But there is help available and it can help with this trauma, whatever its source. Over the last 20 years, our ability to help those who have been traumatised has improved exponentially. We have new CBT therapies, EMDR and other techniques which allow people to rapidly recover from severe traumas. If you feel you need help, we have it and it can be made available to you.We have arranged a session for those who are finding all these losses difficult to process. Complex Bereavement Storytelling WorkshopNine Nights - A Workshop Exploring Some Shared Narratives Of Grief&quot; &quot;Food&quot; can be a common theme in many cultural grieving processes. Using story, this is an invitation to pause, reflect and share our narratives. While this will not be a therapy group, it is hoped that the material might encourage you to explore &quot;nourishment&quot; as part of your future journey with Grief, in a manner that&#x27;s right for you. 24 June, 10am-11.30am.
