Join the Complex Fluids in Manufacturing workshop to discuss the new challenges and applications involving complex fluids.

About this event

This workshop is organised by UCL ChemEng, MechEng, and Mathematics in collaboration with the British Society of Rheology (BSR), as part of the dissemination plan for the EPSRC Formulation grant CORAL: Complex ORAL health products: Characterisation, modelling and manufacturing challenges.

The event will serve as a forum to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to discuss challenges and applications of complex fluids.

Workshop Programme

09:30 Welcome

09:45 Geoff Maitland (Imperial College London): "Formulation challenges for some oilfield complex fluids "

10:15 CORAL project overview (presented by Panagiota Angeli, UCL): "Manufacturing Challenges of Viscoelastic Suspensions"

11:45 Break

11:00 Short presentations

11:30 Serafim Bakalis (University of Copenhagen): "Product Engineering: Can we move away from trial and error approaches?"

12:00-13:00 Lunch Break

13:00 Yiannis Dimakopoulos (University of Patras): "Advanced Computational Methods for the Simulation of Complex Fluids in Industrial Processes"

13:30 Short presentations

14:00 Sophie Darragh (GSK): "Challenges in Industrial Processing of Complex Fluids"

14:30 Break

14:45 Randy Ewoldt (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign): "Designing complex fluids for flow objectives"

15:15 Suzanne Fielding (Durham University): "Ductile and brittle yielding in sheared amorphous materials"

As part of the workshop, we would like to offer the opportunity to young and ECR researchers to give one of the short (ten minutes) presentations. Presentations from researchers who won the Undergraduate Summer Research Awards from the BSR are particularly welcome. If you would like to present please register for the event and submit in the following link a proposed title, short abstract, and a short bio to link to your talk:

Slots are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis, with the submission deadline on 31st March 2021.
