Session 1

1.30-2.15pm

Decoding Coding - What is Computational Thinking? Computer Science for Primary

Covering some of the building blocks of the Computing curriculum; Algorithms, Debugging, Sequence, Loops (Iteration), Selection (Events).

What do these terms mean and more importantly how can these terms be broken down into simple concepts that KS1+ can understand and apply?

Linking to previous knowledge that can be built upon and connected with through the use of simile and practical experience either physically or verbally. Introduction to Scratch programming language/software incorporating the topics covered in this session.

session 2

2.30-3.15pm

The iPad Orchestra - Using Creative Tech Across the Curriculum

Attendees get hands on expert tuition from the students. Fun, engaging and an eye opening practical introduction to the power of iPads and music technology for learning and performing music. This session was a big hit at this year's Mozfest Festival.

session 3

3.15-4.30pm

Robotics - Beyond Bee-Bots

Design technology, computer science, creativity and materials science. During this session attendees will be taken through the most effective options available to progress students from Bee-Bots to more capable systems of robotic design and control. We'll cover the basics of modern robotics including movement, sensing/input and output. We'll be hands on with some of the most common classroom solutions including Lego EV3, Lego WeDo, Raspberry Pi and Crumble.

................................................................................................................................................

The session will be delivered by Dave Darch from A Little Learning who is co-delivering the computing curriculum at St Patrick's Primary School with a focus on coding and computational thinking.

Dave is a technologist and educator specialising in computing and technology across disciplines. He delivers training to schools, music hubs and cultural organisations around the country, and has written schemes of work for and advised schools on how to approach the recent changes to the primary computing curriculum. He enjoys inspiring the next generation of mad scientist inventors through a mixture of art, music, coding and robotics!

He is creative director of A Little Learning, an Associate Musician (Tech) with Drake Music, and a core member of Tranformance Music

Dave is a certified Raspberry Pi educator, has delivered work for a range of organisations including Google, The British Film Institute (BFI Southbank), Mozilla, Queen Mary University and forms part of the DMLab project, the R&D branch of Drake Music that aims to support the creation of new accessible music technology.
