Essential Skills for Mediation and Negotiation (Session 3 of 3)

This session introduces participants to conflict, its causes, how it develops and different types. It lays the foundation for developing a deeper understanding of how conflicts arise and how they impact individuals and groups.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Apply active listening and empathetic communication in conflicts
  • Use key conflict resolution techniques such as mediation and negotiation
  • Develop strategies for responding to difficult behaviors


Your Facilitator

Paul has 30 years’ experience of community and economic development work in the voluntary and statutory sector in the UK and overseas. He is trained in conflict resolution and mediation that includes a focus on mediation techniques and tools. He has worked across a variety of settings, including strategic policy, multi agency partnerships and communities facilitating using negotiation skills and conflict resolution techniques to build consensus. He has strong experience in project management and conflict facilitation in multidisciplinary environments. He is skilled in managing conflicts in various settings, ensuring constructive and diplomatic outcomes to facilitate progress and collaboration. Paul is also the Chair of Bang Edutainment, a charity delivering projects for young people aged 8-25 in Brent.
