A cultural exchange and arts activism event with writers in the UK, Uganda and Malaysia.

All Change invites you to join 3 exceptional writers: Francesca Beard, Hilda Twongyeirwe and Priya K, and their ‘community of communities’ in the UK, Uganda and Malaysia for a special online event. Enjoy live spoken word and poetry performances followed by a creative conversation with the writers and communities involved in CONNECT 360The CONNECT 360 project brings together three writers whose practice involves community activism and engagement – Francesca Beard (London), Hilda Twongyeirwe (Kampala) and Priya K (Kuala Lumpur) and their communities of diverse individual writers based in the UK, Uganda and Malaysia. What does community mean for us as writers? What are the global stories that will not forgive silence?Since Spring 2021, this global ‘community of communities’ has been meeting, sharing ideas and skills, building connections and developing understanding through a programme of online creative workshops and conversations. Together they made new work, which will be shared and celebrated as part of this event for All Change’s annual <a href="https://www.allchangearts.org/projects/word" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">WORD2021 Festival </a>taking place in London and online (1-10 October 2021).The event begins at: 11am (UK)/ 1pm (Uganda)/6pm (Malaysia) and is in 2 parts -Part 1: live spoken word and poetry performancesPart 2: a creative conversation with the writers and communities involved in CONNECT 360(There will be a short interval between each part.)The writers - Francesca Beard is an internationally acclaimed spoken word artist who makes interactive and transformational work for live audiences. She comes from London, by way of Malaysia. Hilda J. Twongyeirwe is from Lake Bunyonyi region in South Western Uganda. She juggles life in community service as a mother, a wife, a development worker, a writer, an editor, a Lion, a feminist and woman activist. She holds a National Medal of the government of Uganda and a Women for Women Award, both in recognition of her contribution to women empowerment and emancipation through literary arts. Priya K writes to make sense of the world around her, and hopes her work helps others in the same way. She currently makes a living as a freelance writer by day, and is furiously typing out her first full-length play by night.<a href="https://www.allchangearts.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">All Change</a> - World class art made by, with and for communities - Based in north London, UK since 1985, All Change brings artists and communities together to produce original and authentic arts experiences, which develop understanding and make connections between people. - Ambitious for Artists | Ambitious for CommunitiesCONNECT 360 is funded by British Council Literature’s Working Internationally grant programme.
