West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership

Join West Yorkshire and Harrogate as they celebrate their journey in creating a diverse leadership that better reflects their communities.

Following the recent HSJ award win for ‘System Leadership Initiative of the Year’ the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership (Integrated Care System) Race Equality Network is looking to mark the event by hosting a race equality focus week. The Race Equality Network aim to celebrate the journey we have been on, supporting the Partnership to deliver on one of our ten big ambitions (detailed below).‘We will have a more diverse leadership that better reflects the broad range of talent in West Yorkshire and Harrogate, helping to ensure that the poor experiences in the workplace that are particularly high for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic staff will become a thing of the past’. We aim to:<ul><li>Celebrate the journey so far </li><li>Create the opportunity for the system to connect to more of itself</li><li>Reflect on existing priorities</li><li>Create increased networking and development opportunities</li><li>Share good practice </li><li>Aid the network to review actions currently being taken to close the gaps in inequality </li></ul>Coordinated by the WY&H HCP Race Equality Network online event speakers include Cllr Shabir Pandor, Leader of Kirklees Council and WY&H HCP inclusion lead; WY&H HCP CEO, Rob Webster CBE. The West Yorkshire Mayor, Tracy Brabin and Alison Lowe, West Yorkshire's Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, will also take part in the event.

King’s Fund and Professor at Lancaster University Michael West CBE; Dr Habib Naqvi Director, NHS Race and Health Observatory; Jenni Douglas-Todd, Director of Equality and Inclusion at NHS England and Nadine Pemberton all the way from St Lucia will take part amongst many others. As a previous Executive Director of Legal for Social Work England and current consultant coach and mentor, Nadine will be sharing her leadership journey.

Other speakers include Monique Carayol, Founder and Managing Director of Your New Avenue, previous NHS Director of Strategy and Transformation and Helen Bevan, Chief Transformation Officer, NHS Horizons and Dr Navina Evans, CEO for Health Education England.
Launch - ‘Connected on Inclusion’ (Mon 4th October 2021, 09.30-10:00)Sharing the journey over the last two years since the launch of the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Race Equality Network, Rob Webster will be looking to celebrate and share the huge achievements made in West Yorkshire and Harrogate over the last few years.Leading with Compassion (Mon 4th October 2021, 10:00-11.30)Following the recent launch of Michael West's amazing new book on ‘Compassionate leadership for all health and social care staff’, Michael will share his extensive wisdom on leading with compassion.Power of a Social Movement – Ready 2 Rise (Mon 4th October 2021, 14:30-16:00)Alumni from various cohorts of the NHS Leadership Academy programmes aimed at senior leaders from ethnic minorities will share their journey since graduating from the academy.Brave Leadership (Tue 5th October 2021,10:00-11:30)	Nadine Pemberton will be sharing her moving personal story, where recognising her strength and showing brave leadership was the only way forward to overcome her personal situation.Resources Launch (Wed 6th October 2021, 10:00-11.30)	A truly celebratory session where a variety of network members and other system leaders within West Yorkshire and Harrogate will share valuable resources for you to use when addressing the inclusion agenda.Inclusion Priorities – Health Education England (Wed 6th October 2021, 14:30-16:00)Colleagues from Health Education England (HEE) will be sharing a number of insights aligned to the Race Equality Week. This session will celebrate the latest ideas, initiatives and opportunities HEE has been piloting at regional and national levels. Participants will hear from several Health Education England colleagues, including members of the Diversity, Inclusion and Participation Team. You will hear about our inclusive recruitment project and diverse talent management, weaving into the discussions recognition of neurodiversity and the importance of intersectionality to advance equality in the workplace. You will be introduced to the NHS Project &amp; Change Capability Framework and you’ll also be given information on the recently launched Project Management Apprenticeships. Fellows: The Journey So Far (Thurs 7th October 2021, 10:00-11:30)The force behind the HSJ award winning ‘Fellowship programme’ Sam Kelly, will share details of the renowned programme from its inception to the current launch of cohort two. In addition, the Fellows will chart their fellowship journey. Is true change really happening and how far along the road are we? Join the group to find out!What it Means to Belong (Thurs 7th October 2021, 14:30-16:00)This session will take you on a celebratory journey with the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Race Equality Network to reach a sense of belonging! Working together in partnership to ensure we create inclusive workplaces that support the health and wellbeing of our people. WYH places connected on inclusion (Fri 8th October 2021,10:00-11.30am)Place representatives from across our West Yorkshire and Harrogate system will come together to discuss inclusion priorities. This session will explore the progress so far, what is working well and how we measure the impact of this work across our places. This will be an opportunity for you to get involved in the place led discussions. Integrated Care System’s Connected on Inclusion (Fri 8th October 2021, 13:30-15:00) The penultimate session of the week brings together partners from far and wide Integrated Care Systems (ICS) across the country to share good practice on inclusion. A huge opportunity for Integrated Care System’s to connect and network whilst exploring opportunities for further collaboration and complex issues that are best worked on through system partnerships. Race Equality Awards Evening (Fri 8th October 2021, 17:00-18:00)The finale of the ‘Connected on Inclusion’ week wouldn’t be complete without recognising the amazing leadership and huge personal commitment shown by members of the Race Equality Network and leaders across the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Partnership. So join West Yorkshire and Harrogate’s own version of the HSJ awards, to recognise the huge talent amongst us.
