As always, NTE will be providing technical talks, by techies for techies as well as excellent food and a free bar in a top central Leeds location. We have two great speakers lined up for this session, which will be held at Archie’s Bar, Granary Wharf. The programme will be as follows:

Presentation 1: MobX State Tree + React: pure reactivity served - 1 hour with Luca Mezzalira
Abstract:
Reactive Programming is definitely the paradigm for the future, MobX is a state management system very easy to pick up and in combination with MobX state tree we can create reactive applications in no time. In this talk I'd like to highlight the key concepts of Reactive Programming inside MobX like observables and observers, computed values and actions. Also I'm going to share a real example that will cover the key parts of a frontend application like: consuming a remote endpoint. managing the data flow. structuring the relation between views and store. reacting to changes.

Presentation 2: Serverless design patterns - 1 hour with Yan Cui
Abstract:
The motivation for this talk is two-fold: 1) to show the audience to some common design patterns that they can quickly adopt, but perhaps even more important 2) to expose the audience to a framework of thinking about the tradeoffs and failure modes with their choice of event sources for Lambda - eg. SNS creates a concurrent execution for Lambda for each message, which makes it a great choice when you want to maximise parallelism, but a terrible choice as a queue between services (to amortise spikes in upstream traffic)
Speaker’s Bio:
Yan is a Principal Engineer at DAZN and is an experienced engineer who has worked with AWS for near 10 years. He has been an architect and lead developer with a variety of industries ranging from investment banks, e-commerce to mobile gaming. In the last 2 years he has worked extensively with AWS Lambda in production, and he has been very active in sharing his experiences and the lessons he has learnt, some of his work has even made their way into the <A HREF="https://emea01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fd1.awsstatic.com%2Fwhitepapers%2Farchitecture%2FAWS-Serverless-Applications-Lens.pdf&data=02%7C01%7CBruno.Matos-Tavares%40dazn.com%7Caf243042837d4e1d670b08d58d97e03b%7C30459df51e534d8ba1620ad2348546f1%7C1%7C1%7C636570605823723887&sdata=qTUXzHZfMhful22%2BrHsUguR%2BOXp60IN3kSsLsAL1OI4%3D&reserved=0" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Serverless Well-Architected</A> whitepaper published by AWS. Yan is polyglot in both spoken and programming languages, he is fluent in both English and Mandarin, and counts C#, F#, Scala, Node.js and Erlang amongst programming languages that he has worked with professionally.
