Constable Ambisonic - Kate Carr

As part of the Constable Ambisonic project, sound artist Stuart Bowditch has been making 360º spatial audio recordings of the locations of 20 paintings by John Constable. You’ll be able to hear stereo versions of these recordings at ‘The Hay Wain: Walking Constable’s Landscape’ exhibition at Christchurch Mansions in Ipswich from July. There will also be a series of six live events to listen to the ambisonic recordings, that will include sonic performances by commissioned artists responding to the recording.

In the fourth of these, sound artist Kate Carr will respond to ‘East Bergholt Church: the ruined tower’ painted in 1815, in the chapel at Old Hall Community.

These events are part of the Constable250 project celebrating Constable’s anniversary. Constable Ambisonic is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through an Arts Council Project Grant, with match funding from Colchester and Ipswich Museums, and support from National Trust Flatford. Tickets for this event are £5. The venue is a very pleasant 3 mile walk from Manningtree Station (through Constable Country), or a 45 minute bus ride (Number 93) from Colchester. Car parking is ONLY in the public car park behind the Red Lion pub CO7 6TB. Please, NO on street parking. There is step free access to the venue. Please bring:

• your ears, as we'll be doing a lot of listening
• your own drinks
• a jumper as it might be cool
• respect for others' property, as Old Hall is a group of families and individuals who have chosen to live, farm and eat together in a large historical building, with about 65 acres of land, in rural Suffolk.
