Constable Ambisonic - Simon Scott

Constable Ambisonic - Simon Scott

The MinoriesColchester, England
Saturday 18 July  •  3 PM - 5 PM
Overview

A live performance by Simon responding to a recording made at the location of one of John Constable's paintings.

As part of the Constable Ambisonic project, sound artist Stuart Bowditch has been making 360º spatial audio recordings of the locations of 20 paintings by John Constable. You’ll be able to hear stereo versions of these recordings at ‘The Hay Wain: Walking Constable’s Landscape’ exhibition at Christchurch Mansions in Ipswich from July. There will also be a series of six live events to listen to the ambisonic recordings, that will also include sonic performances by commissioned artists responding to the recording.

In the fifth of these, composer, mastering engineer and sound artist Simon Scott will respond to ‘The Ruins of St Botolph's Priory, Colchester’ drawn in 1809.

These events are part of the Constable250 project celebrating Constable’s anniversary. Constable Ambisonic is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through an Arts Council Project Grant, with match funding from Colchester and Ipswich Museums, and support from National Trust Flatford. They are also sponsored by www.branchoutproductions.com

Tickets for this event are £5. The venue is very well served by public transport to the centre of the City. Please bring:

  • your ears, as we'll be doing a lot of listening
  • your own drinks

We're keeping these events as accessible as possible, but if you find that you can't afford to come but would really like to, drop us an email at constableambisonic@gmail.com and we'll see if we can make it happen.
