Constellations ° Assemblies is a series of three online events involving a range of UK and international speakers.

<h3><em><em>Constellations ° Assemblies</em></em> is a series of three online events involving a range of UK and international speakers and open to all artists, curators, practitioners, commissioners, communities, and those working across public art, social practice and regeneration.</h3><p><br></p><p>Exploring the relationship between creative practice and policy, UP Projects’ <em><em>Constellations ° Assemblies 202</em></em><em><em>4</em></em> programme is rooted in our firm belief that socially engaged practice has the potential to catalyse change while also recognising that this can only happen when supported by action at policy-level. Building on this premise, the three online Assemblies will reflect on the role that art can play in supporting advocacy and campaigning, as well as acknowledging the challenges and obstacles that need to be tackled along the way.</p><p>The full line-up of speakers will be announced throughout the programme.</p><p>The Constellations ° Assemblies will be accessible via UP Projects’ digital participation space, The Hall, and will take place on Zoom.</p><p><strong><strong>To enable access to this high-quality programme, UP Projects will operate a “Pay What You Can” ticketing policy for</strong></strong><strong><strong> </strong></strong><em><strong><strong>Assemblies</strong></strong></em><strong><strong>, with a suggested donation of £5 per event. You can book by entering a minimum of £1.</strong></strong></p><p>Online resources will be produced as part of the Constellations ° Assemblies programme and hosted on UP Projects’ Resource Library. These will include accessible event recordings with BSL interpretation and captions.</p><p>Constellations ° Assemblies 2024 is curated by UP Projects and supported by Arts Council England.</p>

<h3>Dread Scott: How can we harness political energy?</h3><h4>25 September 2024, 14:00 – 15:15 BST</h4><p>Operating at the intersection of art and activism, artist Dread Scott talks about the role his work plays in harnessing political energy, especially in public space, to support the continued struggle for freedom and emancipation. Following a keynote presentation of projects including <em><em>Slave Rebellion Re-enactment</em></em> (2019), Scott will be in conversation with Director of Chisenhale Gallery and member of the Greater London Authority’s Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm, Zoé Whitley to explore the role large interventions in public space can have in amplifying diverse histories.</p>

<h3>Pushing for culture-based climate action</h3><h4>13 November 2024, 14:00 – 15:15 GMT</h4><p>What are your guiding values for culture-based climate action? And what are the challenges along the way and how do we navigate compromises? Advocating for a public art ecosystem that is locally rooted, non-extractive, and joined-up to climate action, we will invite a number of artists working across the themes of ecologies and environmental justice to offer their perspectives. Speakers include Manon Awst (artist), Anne Duk Hee Jordan (artist), and Victoria Pratt (Creative Director, Invisible Flock). <em><em>Pushing for culture-based climate action</em></em> will be moderated by Farah Ahmed, Climate Justice Lead (Julie’s Bicycle).</p>

<h3>Art in schools: getting culture back on the agenda</h3><h4>12 February 2025, 14:00 – 15:15 GMT</h4><p>With cultural education being downgraded in schools, and no longer prioritised in the UK School curriculum, we ask creative practitioners who bring experience of working within education settings to offer their perspectives. What are the long-term consequences of this approach? What does best practice look like when developing creative projects with schools? And how can these advocate for policy change at government level? Speakers include artist Abbas Zahedi and artist Cathy Wade. <em><em>Art in schools: getting culture back on the agenda</em></em> will be moderated by CEO of A New Direction, Steve Moffitt MBE.</p>
