Contact Improvisation Winter Edition
Sign up here for 7 weekly Contact Improvisation sessions to move through the coldest winter months playfully and restoratively.
This 7 week journey is for anyone who wishes to continue their practice or learn CI for the first time. Sessions will cover the principles of the form, using technique and playful partnered scores. Each session will have 1 hour of facilitated material followed by 1 hour of jamming. We'll focus on gentleness and togetherness to nourish and restore our bodies while winter moves through us.
Contact Improvisation (CI) is a relational, touch-based movement practice that relies upon the physical exploration of two or more people as the starting point for movement possibilities. It involves playing with risk, vulnerability and trust through sharing weight, rolling, sliding, flying, supporting, and embodied consent. It often leaves dancers feeling more connected to themselves, their own bodies and others. Dancers learn to cultivate awareness, curiosity and mindful movement; dances can be wild and exhilarating, slow and exploratory.
Your facilitator is a devoted practitioner of CI. I love to hold connecting spaces and share what I've learnt through the practice, as well as organising events to grow the community in Sheffield.
KEY DATES: Sessions will take place on Wednesdays, 7:30-9:30pm.
Beginning: Wednesday January 7th
Ending: Wednesday February 18th.
VENUE: We will gather in the main hall at Meersbrook Park United Reformed Church on Chesterfield Road. The space is warm and accessible. If you drive, parking is available. Ride shares, public transport and cycling are encouraged!
COST: The standard cost for the 7 weeks is £70, to be paid before 2nd January 2026. Please get in touch if paying in full before this date is a barrier.
Concessions and drop-ins will only be available if a critical mass of participation is reached before starting. Concessions will be £50 and are for people on low-incomes or otherwise unable to afford the full price. If you struggle to get by each month and would like a concession, please get in touch and we'll work something out.
Pay it forward: If you have ample means and would like to pay more to help subsidise a place for someone with less means, get in touch!
Love and wintery greetings, Ash
