About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

In response to strong interest from our Birmingham Learning Circle, we're taking a deeper dive into how funders can effectively navigate the tension between responding to urgent crises and supporting long-term systems change.

This session will offer a space for honest, practical reflection through a new and short case study, peer exchange, and targeted discussion. We will explore how funding strategies can meet immediate needs while contributing to structural transformation.

Together, we'll explore key questions shaping funding practice today, including:

Have you supported work that balances crisis response and systems change? What worked well, and what would you do differently?

  • Where do tensions arise when trying to fund both frontline delivery and long-term transformation?
  • How can we fund in ways that enable partners to sit at decision-making tables and influence local systems?
  • What makes this possible or challenging in your context?
  • How can we fund systems change without leaving behind smaller grassroots or specialist organisations?
  • What’s needed to build their capacity and resilience while influencing wider systems?

What to Expect
A short case study will be shared one week prior to the session. Please set aside approximately 30 minutes to review it in advance.
The session will include a facilitated discussion, followed by an open advice roundtable where participants can bring real-time challenges and receive peer support.
We will also gather your input to help shape future conversations in the series.
