Conversations Around Death:Exploring cultural and community influences on children and young people’s experiences of bereavement in Scotland

We are inviting adults with experience of working with children and young people (under the age of 25) who have been bereaved across Scotland to take part in roundtable discussions. These discussions will inform the Includem National Childhood Bereavement Coordinator Project report and recommendations to the Scottish Government.The 'Conversations Around Death' discussions be jointly planned and facilitated by Denisha Killoh (Project Lead) and Rebecca Patterson (Director of Good Life, Good Death, Good Grief)First roundtable (18th February 14:00) 1. What are the ways that society/culture influence children and young people’s experiences of bereavement in Scotland? (For example, this might include the influence of include schools, media, social media, professionals, communities, workplaces.) 2. How can we equip communities to feel confident supporting young people who’ve been bereaved? Second roundtable (25th February 14:00) 1. How do we empower young people who’ve been bereaved to ask for help and know what to do? 2. Have you got any examples of a place/community/initiative set up to support or improve the experiences of young people who’ve been bereaved? What have been the strengths and/or weaknesses? These sessions will be held online via Zoom. Pre-session materials and the agenda will be sent out beforehand to ensure you are prepared for the discussions. We would encourage people to attend both sessions to ensure we can meaningfully explore the topic together. There will also be a final session (TBC) to provide an opportunity to sense check the draft recommendations to Scottish Government.These events are part of a series of discussions to advance the work of the National Childhood Bereavement Coordinator Project funded by the Scottish Government and delivered by Includem.
