Comics are a form of material art embedded in wider cultural processes. They usually appear in print form, but they have also populated the virtual world using social media to channel creativity and reach wider audiences. Comics are part and parcel of contemporary museum exhibitions, TV series, films, music videos and, generally, consumer products within the circuit of culture. The endless possibilities of comics to narrate and their capacity to adapt and intersect with other media (photography, music, literature, theatre, poetry, illustration, games) make them an apt example of contemporary cultural production as cross-medial. Currently, comics are experiencing a great creative moment, with new aesthetic trends that broaden their horizon and strengthen their intermedial character. In both Spain and Latin America, new generations of authors are creating comics breathing new life into them and a desire to experiment. In this series of online seminars titled 'Intermedial Narratives: Conversations with Comic Authors', Jorge Catalá and Gerardo Vilches explore the multifaceted landscape of contemporary comics through conversations with comics artists, in which we will delve into their creative processes, their themes, and their references.Third conversation: Amanda BaezaAmanda Baeza (1990) is a Chilean-Portuguese artist who graduated in graphic design from Faculdade de Belas Artes, Lisbon. Her universe includes comics (the vast majority are short stories published in international alternative anthologies), illustrations and fanzines (like "Mr. Spoqui", a long series created in collaboration with her siblings). Alongside her practice as an artist, Amanda has been an illustration and comics teacher since 2016 at the independent art school, Ar.Co, in Lisbon.

Los cómics son una manifestación artística material inserta en procesos culturales más amplios. Por lo general, aparecen en formato impreso, pero también han poblado el mundo virtual utilizando las redes sociales para canalizar la creatividad y llegar a audiencias más amplias. Los cómics son parte integral de exposiciones museísticas contemporáneas, series de televisión, películas, videos musicales y, en general, productos de consumo dentro del circuito cultural. Las infinitas posibilidades de los cómics para narrar y su capacidad de adaptarse e interrelacionarse con otros medios (fotografía, música, literatura, teatro, poesía, ilustración, juegos) los convierten en un ejemplo apropiado de producción cultural contemporánea como intermedial. En la actualidad, el cómic está experimentando un gran momento creativo, con nuevas corrientes estéticas que amplían su horizonte y refuerzan su carácter intermedial. Tanto en España como en Latinoamérica, nuevas generaciones de autoras llegan al cómic para insuflarle vida y ganas de experimentar.En esta serie de seminarios en línea titulada «Narrativas intermediales: conversaciones con autoras de cómic», Jorge Catalá y Gerardo Vilches exploran el paisaje multifacético de los cómics contemporáneos a través de conversaciones con artistas de cómics, en las que profundizaremos en sus procesos creativos, sus temáticas y sus referentes.Tercera conversación: Amanda BaezaAmanda Baeza (1990) es una artista luso-chilena graduada en diseño gráfico en la Facultad de Bellas Artes de Lisboa. Su universo abarca el cómic (en su gran mayoría historietas breves publicadas en antologías internacionales de cómic alternativo), la ilustración, y fanzines (como «Mr. Spoqui», una larga serie realizada en colaboración con sus hermanes). Además de su práctica como artista, Amanda es profesora de ilustración y cómic desde 2016 en la escuela de arte independiente, Ar.Co, en Lisboa.
