🥾 Description

This Hike is a true Chilterns experience, combining dramatic viewpoints, ancient history, and tranquil countryside. Starting from Wendover, we ascend to Coombe Hill, the highest point in the Chilterns, crowned by the Boer War memorial. From here, the views stretch across the Vale of Aylesbury and beyond, offering one of the most iconic panoramas in southern England.

The route then dips into wooded valleys, passing through serene beech forests and hidden paths that feel untouched by time. We climb Pulpit Hill, home to an Iron Age hill fort, where you can imagine life over 2,000 years ago. Continuing along the escarpment, we reach Whiteleaf Cross, a striking chalk figure carved into the hillside, before descending into the charming village of Whiteleaf, with its historic cottages and timeless character.

After a relaxed lunch stop, the walk takes us through Little Hampden, a hamlet that feels like stepping back into the 18th century, before returning to Wendover via a final stretch along the open ridge. This section offers grand views north, contrasting beautifully with the intimate wooded valleys earlier in the day. In autumn, the entire route becomes a riot of russet and gold, making it one of the most picturesque walks in the Chilterns.
