Corn Dolly Workshop

Sandwich Medieval CentreSandwich, Kent
Saturday, Aug 15, 2026 from 10:30 am to 2 pm GMT+1
Overview

A half day workshop learning about this traditional, and now endangered, rural craft.

You will learn about the history, symbolism and meaning of these curious artefacts, who made them, and what materials are used. We will start with very basic ribbon plaiting and folding and then move on to some more complex tubular plaiting. No matter your expertise you can expect to take home several pieces of which you will be justifiably proud! All tools and materials are provided. This workshop is suitable for adults and older teenagers.

Subsequent workshops may be offered dependent on interest. These include More advanced plaiting techniques, Corn Dollies for Lammas, Nordic Julbocks for Christmas, Stars and Baubles
