Crafternoon - Soap Making Workshop - The Cold Process Method
Sun 19 June 2016, 13:00 – 16:00 BST
Join us at Nottingham Hackspace for a repeat of the sold out and very successful Soap Making Workshop. There will be hot drinks and sweet nibbles provided and the first workshop we invite you to will allow you the chance to learn to make your own soap from natural ingredients using the traditional 'cold process' method.
In the 4 hour workshop you will be able to create your own 6 bar block of coloured and scented soap from a mixture of coconut oil, lard or palm oil, olive oil and lye water (sodium hydroxide solution). You can pick the scents, and this would be an ideal gift or you could just keep it for yourself.
In this session:
All materials supplied – and you keep the mould to re-use again.
Learn how to adapt recipes or develop new ones, using online soap calculators
Detailed written instructions and recipes will be provided at the workshop and will be available to download at home after the workshop too.
Will include information about the legislation on packaging, labelling and selling to the public if you are thinking about a new business venture,
The cost of the workshop is £25 per person. You can purchase multiple tickets and please arrive promptly.
The final optional half hour of the afternoon will include a chance to have a tour of the Hackspace and sign up to become a member, if you wish to join our community or even a little earlier.
The workshop will include safety guidance, a practical demonstration of cold process soap making and an opportunity to make your own loaf of soap (approx 6 bars), with your choice of colours, scents and additives.
Please Note: The lye (sodium hydroxide solution) is very caustic so goggles and gloves must be worn whilst the soap is in a liquid state (these will be provided). Please wear old clothes or better still, a lab coat.
