Come join us to hear about this history of women activists in East London, and use their stories to create a mini protest banner. All ages and abilities welcome. 
From Sylvia Pankhurst, to Women United Against Racism, East London has long been a hub of social activism. However, the stories about women are often sidelined or lost completely. In her Footsteps is a local heritage project that seeks to readdress the gender balance, by shining a light on these unsung female heros. 
Come help us celebrate these incredible women, or some you may know yourself, by making a mini protest banner inspired by them. 
Please note: this is not a sewing course. However, the template to follow will be very simple and our support workers will be on hand to help the less experienced.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
We encourage people to use public transport to get to the event. There is some public parking in The Mall on Selbourne Walk.
What can/can't I bring to the event?
Please feel free to bring a packed lunch. Otherwise there are a number of good and cheap eateries close to the venue.
Is there an age restriction on the event?
We'd love it if you'd bring your son or daughter along to the event, so they can learn about the history too. Although the sewing will be simple, we find that children under 7 sometimes struggle with some of the needlework. Please note, this event is open to the wider public, not just families, so all children must be accompanies by a parent or niminated responsible adult.
Can we keep the banners afterwards?
We'd like some of the banners to be placed at the site of the activism - like alterative blue plaques. Others we'd like to hold on to for use in our final exhibition in the summer. After that, we are happy to return them to you.
