CreatED Primary Music

Session 1: Embedding a well sequenced and practically based music curriculum.

This workshop is designed for North East primary school teachers.

Building upon the 3 pillars of musical learning, outlined in Ofsted Research Review in Music, (technical, constructive, and expressive) these sessions will give primary music teachers an overview of Durham Music Primary progress map (built upon the national curriculum) to be able plan an effective, practical, and progressive music curriculum to make sure that pupils get ‘better at music’. There will be practical activities, that will exemplify progression in music, be able to be differentiated for diverse levels of pupils and be based upon examples from recent practice.

This workshop will explore how to plan a well sequenced music curriculum, ensuring pupil progression and in-depth musical learning so staff can eloquently describe music making within the school for an Ofsted deep dive.

Session facilitator:

Michael Summers is Manager of Durham Music Service and a school improvement advisor. He has done extensive school improvement work in schools across the Northeast, developing curriculum from Early Years to A level. He is much in demand as a workshop leader and facilitator and his much-acclaimed Durham Music Primary Progress Map has been used in thousands of schools across the country.
