9th February 2018 - 8.30am to 5.00pm

Objectives for the Day

This event will provide the opportunity to learn and think more strategically about funding plans, ambitions and board development, to align these to maximise the value creation within your businesses. The event will also offer the chance for good networking between CEOs, NXDs and Experts and to hear from experts who have created and realised value multiple times, connect with them and where possible join a round table discussion with some of the facilitators and speakers.

Connect – with other NXDs and CEOs

Learn – more about strategic funding and making your board more effective

Thrive – taking what’s most useful to you back into your business and board to create and realise value

8.55am Welcome

9.00am – The Strategic Funding Plan – with Nelson Gray

Too many companies fail to meet their initial business plan objectives, many others meet their self-set objectives, only to find “no one cares” and both struggle to secure follow on funding. Both mean the founding team of a business have to spend more time raising funds than running the business

This workshop focuses on realistically planning for future funding needs by setting objectives that create value in the eyes of future funders and potential acquirers. It looks at how investor and non-executive directors can add value to this process; ensuring key business decisions are aligned with achieving as many of the three “steady states” that ensure company survival, value creation and founder / investor strategic choice.

11.00am – The Human Factor – with Kirsty Bathgate

The people and culture of any business are its greatest asset- how is then that the people bit is often the most difficult piece?

This workshop focuses on setting the investment journey up for success, building effective boards, engaging in good conflict well and how to utilise and engage the talent around the boardroom table taking a view from both a CEO and NXD perspective, aiming to challenge both to engage and communicate more effectively focussing on creating value through getting the most from the people.

1.15pm Round Table Discussions with Facilitators and Panel Experts

3.00pm Realising Value Expert Panel including experts from:-

What the NXDs have said -

"I found it really informative and thought provoking - Nelson presented in a very relaxed but engaging manner - he clearly has a mass of knowledge and first hand experience. Excellent stuff!!!"

"It was a very interesting workshop which certainly provides food for thought. Nelson's experiences especially with the American Angel market help you form new insights"

“As a relatively new angel investor, I found the Strategic Funding Workshop extremely useful. Nelson brings a nuanced and sophisticated perspective to the question of funding with a focus on structures that align the interests of entrepreneurs and investors and support success”

What the CEOs have said –

“Kirsty Bathgate creates workshops that challenge and motivate CEOs like myself to examine their leadership styles and to look at ways in which we could lead better.I found the workshops to be a fantastic way to step out of the business, without having to spend too much time away, and to reflect on areas in which I could grow as a leader. I also found that Kirsty Bathgate created an environment in which both CEOs and non-execs could be open and honest, which was very powerful in the context. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough to those looking to participate in future workshops”

“I found the course, exceptional. As a self-starter, it’s often a lonely isolated place to be and the management style you bring into your business is often a mirror of how I cut my teeth many years ago. I found the course brought me into a new way of thinking and a way that investors in my business and at board level will easily understand. I think it made me feel that I’m armed and equipped to lead a modern vibrant business with new younger people, where before I could find myself almost making it up at points and banging heads with people through frustration.”
