Creating Garden Labels- Woodwork & Design:
Overview
This is a fantastic opportunity to bring clarity and personality to the growing space while learning some fun hands-on decorating and crafting techniques.
What You'll Be Making
We'll guide you through the process of creating durable, legible labels perfect for marking everything from large garden patches to small herb pots. We will be using waste wood that we have collected here at the dock, giving it a new life!
What to Expect on the Day
The workshop is a fun, hands-on session split into practical stages, allowing for crucial drying time for the paint. We'll start by preparing our materials—the reclaimed waste wood—by sanding it (we will be using power tools under supervision for efficiency!) and applying the first coat of weatherproof paint.
During the drying breaks, we will dive into a Design Introduction, which will be run by the talented designer and illustrator, Lydia Thornley (@lydiathornley) This session will cover key skills like: choosing the right materials, fitting your information into the available space, creating designs that are easy to read from a distance, and making specialised labels for small pots.
We will finish the day by applying a final coat of paint and then spending time decorating and finishing one label to perfection!
Come ready to get a little paint on your hands, meet other enthusiasts, and make a lasting, beautiful contribution to the our food growing area!
