The Humanities Research Centre is delighted to present Creative Collaborations.

Supported by the Place & Community Fund, the event will explore how academics work with individual creative practitioners to enhance their research and develop lasting collaborations beyond the academy. It follows Arts Council England’s definition of creative practitioners as ‘people who are working (or aspiring to work) independently or freelance to create new, or reshape existing, cultural content’, and seeks to understand the ways in which equitable relationships with individual creative practitioners can contribute to York’s aim to become a university for the public good.

The event will showcase inspiring examples of good practice, including insights from academics and creative practitioners who have participated in collaborative activities at the University of York and beyond, as a means of sharing knowledge and highlighting the potential of this work. It aims to inspire and empower University of York researchers to incorporate creative approaches in their methodologies and develop new collaborations with practitioners outside the academy.

Creative Collaborations will be of interest to all UoY researchers wanting to learn more about knowledge exchange between the academy and creative sector. There will be opportunities to meet those who are already engaged in this work, consider how working with a creative practitioner might benefit your research, and let the HRC know what types of support that could facilitate your own collaborations.

Speakers include: Bridget Foreman, Lecturer in Playwritng; Butshilo Nleya, Playwright, Percussionist and Researcher; Emilie Flower, Freelance Film Maker and Co-investigator on the Art Rights Truth project at the Centre for Applied Human Rights Emilie Morin, Professor of Modern Literature, Laura Purseglove, Producer for RADAR at Loughborough University Ruth Kelly, Lecturer based in the Centre for Applied Human Rights; and Tara Fatehi Irani, Multidisciplinary Artist, Writer and Researcher.
